Always misses the first letter!

iPhone 6, stock keyboard, every time I open the app, I tap the search bar, the keyboard appears, I begin typing my search, and then I get frustrated when I realize the first letter never gets entered! If I wait a second or two it wont miss the first keystroke though. But I hate having to be patient!
