Dont care about "trending"

Google app used to provide occasionally interesting stories or articles to read. A little creepy the way it followed me around the web, but nonetheless was somewhat useful. Latest update has flooded the app with "trending" stories totally unrelated to my interests or search history. I dont want to read the stories Google wants me to be interested in. Deleted in favor of DuckDuckGo until they get their act together.
